TeletextLive
TeletextLive is a set top box that allows you to relive past broadcasts, including their accompanying teletext pages. You plug it in to an old Teletext compatible TV, turn it on and… use it. Use your TVs remote to decide what to watch, and use the same remote to access the Teletext pages. It is that simple.
Status
It works and feels amazing to use. It really is like sitting at home in the 80s or 90s, watching TV and flicking through the Teletext pages.
Although it is 100% functional there are a few bits I want to redesign before releasing in to the wild so please bear with me.
Nerdy bits
It is running on a Raspberry Pi 3 with the Buster version of Raspian. You configure it by providing it with both a video file and accompanying .t42 file, plug it in, turn it on, and off you go.
It is designed to run as an appliance - you just turn it on or off as needed - but there is also capability to easily manage the box over SSH.
For the first prototype I managed to squeeze the Pi in to a “rabbit ear” indoor aerial, which looks amazing, however with a few of the future goals a tad more room might be needed.
Future plans
There are some amazing things in the pipeline but lets get the public release out the way first…
